ONEREPUBLIC BIOGRAPHY - AGE, MEMBERS, SONGS & FACTS

OneRepublic is an American pop rock band formed in 2002 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, by Ryan Tedder and Zach Filkins. Before streaming made it routine, the band scored its first commercial breakthrough as an unsigned act on MySpace, building one of the biggest followings the platform had ever seen for an independent group.

Since then, OneRepublic has grown into a Grammy-nominated global band with a run of multi-platinum hits. Frontman Tedder — dubbed the "Undercover King of Pop" for his chart-dominating songwriting for other stars — remains one of pop's most in-demand writers while leading the band from the piano and the microphone.

Formation

OneRepublic was founded in 2002 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, when childhood friends Ryan Tedder and Zach Filkins decided to build a band around Tedder's piano-driven songwriting. The group first signed with Columbia Records, but the label dropped them just two months before the release of their debut album — a setback that could have ended the story before it began.

Instead, the band was picked up by Timbaland's Mosley Music Group, an imprint of Interscope Records, handing OneRepublic a second shot at a major-label launch.

Career

The band's debut album, Dreaming Out Loud, arrived on November 20, 2007. Its lead single "Apologize," remixed by Timbaland, became a worldwide phenomenon, hitting No. 1 in 16 countries and earning OneRepublic a 2009 Grammy nomination for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

What followed was a run of era-defining hits: "Stop and Stare," "Good Life," "Secrets," "Counting Stars," "Love Runs Out," "Rescue Me," "Run" and "I Ain't Worried." "Counting Stars," from the 2013 album Native, reached No. 1 in the UK and No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and its video became the first ever by a band to cross one billion views on YouTube — a stadium-scale singalong that placed the band alongside the era's biggest arena headliners, as profiled in our Coldplay biography.

Honors include a win for International Band of the Year at the 2010 Eska Music Awards and three nominations at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards. Notably, "Counting Stars" was nominated but did not win a Billboard Music Award. Tedder, born June 26, 1979 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, also co-wrote Leona Lewis's "Bleeding Love" and Beyoncé's "Halo," a behind-the-scenes résumé that rivals fellow hit-machine Ed Sheeran — read the Ed Sheeran biography. As a producer, Tedder is a three-time Grammy Album of the Year recipient for his work on Adele's 21 and 25 and Taylor Swift's 1989, carrying a classic pop-songwriting lineage in the spirit celebrated by our ABBA biography.

Recent Work (2025–2026)

On July 10, 2025, OneRepublic signed with BMG, ending an 18-year run with Mosley Music Group/Interscope. The move was quickly followed by "Beautiful Colors" in July 2025, the band's first single under the new deal.

The BMG era has kept a steady release pace: "Need Your Love" arrived on April 3, 2026 as the second confirmed single from the band's upcoming seventh album, followed by "In Your Eyes" with Alesso on June 5, 2026 and "Pay That Toll" on August 28, 2026. On October 7, 2026, the band marked the 10th anniversary of Oh My My with a deluxe edition and companion mini-documentary — see our coverage of OneRepublic's 'Oh My My' 10th anniversary deluxe edition.

On stage, the band headlined the Hollywood Bowl in September 2026, toured Europe through October and November 2026, and closed out the year across Asia–Pacific, including "The Sweet Escape" dates in Australia and New Zealand, plus select 2026 iHeartRadio Jingle Ball stops. Details of the seventh album remain limited, and according to reports no release date has been officially confirmed.
