Early Life

Ed Sheeran's real name is Edward Christopher Sheeran. He was born on 17 February 1991 at the Royal Halifax Infirmary in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England — which makes him 35 years old as of 2026.

Sheeran grew up in Framlingham, Suffolk, where he began writing songs as a boy. At 16, he moved to London to chase his musical dreams, playing tiny gigs and self-releasing music while slowly building a loyal fan base.

For his services to music, Sheeran was awarded an MBE in 2017.

Career

Sheeran's recording career began with a run of independent EPs between 2005 and 2010, starting with the Orange Room EP. His breakthrough came in 2011 with the No. 5 Collaborations Project EP, which caught the attention of Asylum/Atlantic and led to his signing with the label.

His debut studio album, + ("Plus"), was released in 2011, topped the UK Albums Chart, and gave him his first hit single, "The A Team".

The follow-up, × ("Multiply") (2014), reached number one around the world and finished as the second-best-selling album of 2015.

Then came ÷ ("Divide") (2017), the best-selling album in the world that year. Its lead singles "Shape of You" and "Castle on the Hill" debuted in the top two chart positions in multiple countries — making Sheeran the first artist ever to debut two songs in the US top 10 in the same week. Later that year, "Perfect" became the UK Christmas number one.

Sheeran continued his run with No.6 Collaborations Project (2019) and = ("Equals") (2021), before releasing two albums in 2023 — − ("Subtract") and Autumn Variations — on his own label, Gingerbread Man Records.

In 2025 he released his eighth studio album, Play, on 12 September 2025 — his ninth consecutive UK No. 1 album. Its singles include "Azizam", "Old Phone" and "Sapphire"; check out the lyrics of his hit 'Sapphire' (featuring Arijit Singh) right here on LatestLyrics.

In 2026, Sheeran launched the Loop Tour, kicking off in New Zealand in January 2026. The North America leg runs from 13 June to 7 November 2026, with 26 stadium dates. Read more about Macklemore being dropped from Sheeran's 2026 Loop Tour.
