Early Life

Prabhas was born as Uppalapati Venkata Suryanarayana Prabhas Raju on 23 October 1979 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He comes from a well-known film family: his father, U. S. N. Raju, was a film producer, and his uncle was the legendary Telugu actor Krishnam Raju, who introduced him to the film industry.

A B.Tech graduate, Prabhas has often said that he originally wanted to be a hotelier and never planned to become an actor. Cinema found him through his family, and he went on to enter the Telugu film industry in the early 2000s.

Career

Prabhas made his acting debut with Eeswar in 2002, which had a modest run. His breakthrough came two years later with Varsham (2004), a romantic action drama that made him a star in Telugu cinema.

The rest of the decade and the early 2010s brought a string of hits: Chatrapathi (2005), directed by S. S. Rajamouli; the romantic comedy Darling (2010); the family entertainer Mr. Perfect (2011); and the action drama Mirchi (2013), for which he won the Nandi Award for Best Actor. Along the way he collected 7 Filmfare nominations and 1 SIIMA Award, establishing himself as one of Tollywood's most bankable leading men.

Baahubali & Pan-India Stardom

Everything changed with Baahubali: The Beginning (2015), in which Prabhas played the dual roles of Amarendra Baahubali and Mahendra Baahubali. Its sequel, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017), became the first Indian film to gross over ₹1,000 crore, turning Prabhas into India's first true pan-India star almost overnight.

He followed the Baahubali phenomenon with a run of big-budget releases: the action thriller Saaho (2019), the romantic drama Radhe Shyam (2022), Adipurush (2023), the blockbuster Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire (2023), and Kalki 2898 AD (2024), which grossed over ₹1,100 crore worldwide. He is the first South Indian actor to have a wax figure at Madame Tussauds, and according to reports, he is also the only Indian actor with six films that opened to over ₹100 crore worldwide.
