MAROON 5 BIOGRAPHY - AGE, MEMBERS, SONGS & FACTS

Maroon 5 is the American pop rock band from Los Angeles fronted by Adam Levine. Since the early 2000s, the group has stacked up some of the defining pop hits of the modern era, including "Girls Like You", "Sugar" and "Memories".

Blending pop, funk, rock and R&B, Maroon 5 have sold hundreds of millions of records and headlined arenas on every continent. From a high-school garage band to Grammy-winning global stars, here is their full story — including the "Memories" lyrics the world sang along to.

Early Life

Maroon 5 began life in 1994 as Kara's Flowers, a teenage band formed by Los Angeles school friends Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden and Ryan Dusick. After an early album and a split from their first label, the group regrouped with a new guitarist, James Valentine, who joined in 2001. With a fresh line-up and a new sound, the five-piece renamed themselves Maroon 5 and set their sights on a bigger stage.

Career

Their debut as Maroon 5, Songs About Jane (2002), was a slow-burn phenomenon. "Harder to Breathe", "This Love" and "She Will Be Loved" turned the band into radio fixtures, and the album earned them the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2005. It Won't Be Soon Before Long (2007) followed, powered by "Makes Me Wonder" — their first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1.

Hands All Over (2010) delivered the unstoppable "Moves Like Jagger", while Overexposed (2012) kept the streak alive with "One More Night" and "Payphone". V arrived in 2014, and Red Pill Blues (2017) gave them the Diamond-certified "Girls Like You" featuring Cardi B. Later records Jordi (2021) and their eighth studio album Love Is Like (2025), released on August 15, 2025, kept the hits coming — placing them in the same arena-pop conversation as fellow hitmakers (see our Coldplay biography).

Today the line-up is Levine, Carmichael, Valentine, Matt Flynn, PJ Morton and Sam Farrar. The band have won three Grammy Awards, sold more than 110 million albums and 815 million singles, and earned three Diamond-certified singles in the United States.

Recent Work

Maroon 5 remain a touring powerhouse. The Love Is Like Tour 2025 played 24 US arenas, including sold-out nights at Madison Square Garden and The Forum. The road continues into 2026–27 with further legs, a headline show at London's Hyde Park, and an Asia run in January–February 2027 that wraps up on February 12, 2027 in Singapore. The band also released the new single "Heroine" in May 2026.

Personal Life

Frontman Adam Noah Levine was born on March 18, 1979, in Los Angeles. Beyond the band, he became a television fixture as a coach on The Voice and headlined the Super Bowl LIII halftime show in 2019. He married model Behati Prinsloo in July 2014, and the couple have two children. Levine rose alongside the generation of pop stars covered in our Ed Sheeran biography and Bruno Mars biography.
