LANA DEL REY BIOGRAPHY - AGE, CAREER, SONGS & FACTS — Lana Del Rey, born Elizabeth Woolridge Grant on 21 June 1985 in New York City, is one of the most distinctive voices in modern pop. With her cinematic sound and vintage Americana aesthetic, she rose to fame with the albums Born to Die and Ultraviolence, while her songs "Video Games" and "Summertime Sadness" became global anthems.

Early Life

Elizabeth Woolridge Grant was born on 21 June 1985 in New York City, making her 41 years old. She studied philosophy at Fordham University in the Bronx. Before finding fame, she recorded and performed under the names Lizzy Grant and May Jailer, experimenting with the moody, retro-leaning sound that would later define her career.

Career

Her breakthrough came in 2011 with the viral single "Video Games", followed by her major-label debut album Born to Die in 2012. The albums that followed — Ultraviolence (2014), Honeymoon (2015), Lust for Life (2017), Norman Fucking Rockwell! (2019), Chemtrails over the Country Club (2021), Blue Banisters (2021) and Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd (2023) — cemented her status as a defining artist of her generation. Across her career she has received 11 Grammy nominations, without a win.

Her cinematic style has made her a pop icon alongside modern contemporaries, including those profiled in our Taylor Swift biography — she even collaborated with Taylor Swift on the song "Snow on the Beach" (2022).
