Bokshi is an Indian folk-horror film that marks the feature directorial debut of Bhargav Saikia, who has also produced the film through Lorien Motion Pictures. The screenplay has been written by Harsh Vaibhav, and the film stands out as a rare independent entry in a genre that Indian cinema has seldom explored at this scale.
Mounted on an ambitious canvas, the film was shot over more than eighty days in the forests of Sikkim using practical effects. It was first slated to reach cinemas on October 9, 2026, but following a CBFC review the release was postponed. The makers have now locked December 4, 2026 as the theatrical date, and the official trailer itself carries the tagline "In Cinemas 4 December, 2026".

Release Date
Bokshi was first announced for a theatrical release on October 9, 2026. Following a CBFC review, the film's release was postponed to December 4, 2026. The postponement is reflected in the official trailer itself, which is titled "In Cinemas 4 December, 2026", and the film arrives with an 'A' certificate.
Cast
The film stars Prasanna Bisht as Anahita, the young protagonist at the centre of the story. Mansi Multani plays Shalini, while Siddharth Shaw appears as Rishav. Shernaz Patel lends her voice to the titular Bokshi, and Swaroopa Ghosh rounds out the principal cast.
Plot
Anahita, a young woman still traumatised by her mother's disappearance, joins a school excursion to a mysterious prehistoric site. What begins as an ordinary field trip soon takes an unsettling turn, as Anahita is forced to confront her destiny amid the secrets buried in the ancient landscape.
Music and Crew
The music and background score of the film have been composed by Advait Nemlekar. No commercial song tracklist has been announced so far, so the soundtrack remains score-driven rather than song-driven at this stage.
The cinematography is handled by A. Vasanth and Siddharth Sivasankaran, while the sound design is by Dhiman Karmakar. The film was shot over more than 80 days in the forests of Sikkim, with the makers relying on practical effects to build its folk-horror atmosphere.
The dialogue spans Hindi, English and Nepali, along with Boksirit — a fully developed fictional language created by Dutch linguist Jan van Steenbergen. This makes Bokshi only the second Indian feature after Baahubali to introduce a constructed language of its own.
