Early Life and Education
Thomas William Hiddleston was born on 9 February 1981 in Westminster, London, England. He attended Windlesham House School and the Dragon School before going to Eton College at the age of 13. He read classics at Pembroke College, Cambridge, where he earned a double first, and then trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 2005.
His professional acting debut came in ITV's The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby (2001). His first feature-film role was Oakley in Joanna Hogg's Unrelated (2007), followed by Archipelago (2010).
Career
Hiddleston originally auditioned for the title role in Thor but was cast as Loki in Thor (2011). He reprised the role in six subsequent MCU films and headlined the Disney+ series Loki (2021-2023). Directed by Jennifer Peedom, the film stars Genden Phuntsok as Tenzing Norgay, with Willem Dafoe and Caitriona Balfe also in the cast. It opened in select theatres on 9 October 2026 and arrives on Apple TV globally on 16 October 2026.
On stage, Hiddleston plays Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theatre, running from 31 October 2026 to 10 January 2027, opposite Hayley Atwell and directed by Jamie Lloyd, reprising the 2025 West End production.
His awards include the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Limited Series (2017) for The Night Manager, two Primetime Emmy nominations for the same role, the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Newcomer for Cymbeline (2008), and a BAFTA Rising Star nomination in 2012. Personal Life
Hiddleston's fiancee is actress Zawe Ashton, whom he met on the 2019 stage production of Betrayal. The couple were reported to be engaged in March 2022 and have two children, born in October 2022 and in late 2025.
In an Esquire UK interview published 13-14 October 2026, he said fatherhood had "completely changed my life", calling it "heaven".
