The B-52s: Five Decades of Party Rock

The B-52s formed in 1976 in Athens, Georgia, and helped define the sound of American new wave with their thrift-store style, beehive hairdos and unstoppable dance-floor energy. The lineup of Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson, Keith Strickland and Cindy Wilson carried on after the death of founding member and guitarist Ricky Wilson in 1985.

Their biggest hits include “Rock Lobster”, “Roam” and “Love Shack”. The 1989 smash “Love Shack” earned the band a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group, and its day-glo party spirit has kept it on dance floors and radio playlists around the world ever since.
