Per Stereogum, Robert Pollard told Rolling Stone that the album was made during his obsession with Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood" and surrealism. The record was tracked remotely, with each member working separately, and aims for a brighter, less heavy tone than "Crawlspace Of The Pantheon". Pollard's genre references for the sessions were post-punk, pop, prog and psych, according to theworldinsiders.
