Stella Lefty is laughing along as SNL roasts the plagiarism debate around her breakout hit “Boston”. The comedy giant has released a cut-for-time Weekend Update sketch on October 1, 2026 — and the singer’s reaction says it all: “I’m so dead,” she commented on SNL’s post.

The Sketch
SNL released “Weekend Update: Stella Lefty on Accusations of Plagiarism” on YouTube on Thursday, October 1, 2026. Cast member Veronika Slowikowska plays Lefty opposite Colin Jost at the Weekend Update desk. The segment was filmed for the Season 52 premiere on September 26 — hosted by Jalen Brunson with musical guest KATSEYE — but was cut from the broadcast and later released on SNL’s YouTube channel.
The Jokes
Slowikowska’s Lefty insists her songs are completely original — then performs “new songs” that are instantly recognizable melodies reworked with Boston-themed lyrics. Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” becomes “Big Boston Pub”; Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” becomes “Boston, I’ll Always Love You”; Barenaked Ladies’ “One Week” turns into “One Week Since I Went To Boston”; Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” becomes “We Are Never Ever Going Back To Boston” — alongside a quick “Take Me Home, Boston Roads” snippet. When the bit reaches the Harry Potter theme, Jost has heard enough: “Stella, you’re stealing again!”
The Real Backstory
“Boston” drew comparisons to Noah Kahan’s “Stick Season” — Kahan is credited as a songwriter on Lefty’s song, which interpolates the melody of his 2022 hit (see Noah Kahan’s biography). At least five of Lefty’s tracks were flagged online as sounding similar to other songs; two co-credit Kahan and The Chicks, acknowledging the interpolations. According to reports, her billionaire father, Groupon co-founder Eric Lefkofsky, fuels the “industry plant” criticism. New to her story? Read Stella Lefty’s biography for the full rundown, or check the Boston lyrics page. Chart context: “Boston” peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and hit No. 1 on Billboard Country Airplay; her debut album Long Way Home peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard 200.
Her Reaction
Lefty reposted the clip to her Instagram Story with the message “Funny asf @nbcsnl (@veronika_iscool ur voice is amazing)”. She also commented on SNL’s post: “I’m so dead @veronika_iscool ur voice is fire”.
