Early Life
Ranveer Singh Bhavnani was born on July 6, 1985, in Mumbai into a Sindhi family. His father, Jagjit Singh Bhavnani, is a businessman, and his mother is Anju Bhavnani. He grew up alongside his elder sister Ritika, and actress Sonam Kapoor is his maternal cousin. Ranveer attended Learners' Academy in Mumbai and later H.R. College of Commerce and Economics, before moving to the United States, where he earned a BA from Indiana University Bloomington with a minor in theatre. Before stepping into acting, he worked as an advertising copywriter and then as an assistant director.
Career & Breakthrough Films
Ranveer made his acting debut in 2010 with Yash Raj Films' Band Baaja Baaraat, playing the spirited Delhi wedding planner Bittoo Sharma opposite Anushka Sharma. The film was a critical and commercial success, and it earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. He followed it with Ladies vs Ricky Bahl (2011) and the tender period romance Lootera (2013), before his first major box-office hit arrived with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013) — the very set where he met his future wife, Deepika Padukone. He headlined the blockbuster cop action film Simmba (2018) and the musical drama Gully Boy (2019) — India's official entry to the Oscars — which brought him another Filmfare Award for Best Actor. His transformation into cricket legend Kapil Dev in 83 (2021) earned him yet another Filmfare Best Actor award, and he charmed audiences in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023) opposite Alia Bhatt biography star Alia Bhatt. In all, he has won five Filmfare Awards. Beyond cinema, he remains one of Bollywood's most prolific celebrity endorsers, fronting a long list of major brands.
Recent Work
Ranveer recently headlined the Aditya Dhar-directed spy-action films Dhurandhar (in cinemas December 5, 2025) and Dhurandhar: The Revenge (released March 19, 2026), produced by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, playing the dual role of Jaskirat Singh Rangi / Hamza Ali Mazari.
