Early Life

Post Malone was born Austin Richard Post on July 4, 1995, in Syracuse, New York, and raised in Grapevine, Texas. His father worked in concessions management for the Dallas Cowboys. A childhood Guitar Hero obsession got him into playing the guitar, and around age 14 or 15 he took the stage name "Post Malone" — his last name paired with a name from an online rap name generator.

Career Highlights

In February 2015, he self-released "White Iverson" on SoundCloud, and the track went viral within a month. Republic Records signed him in August 2015. His debut album Stoney arrived in 2016, featuring "Congratulations," "Go Flex" and "Deja Vu," and the global phenomenon "Rockstar" soon followed. "Circles" hit No. 1 in 2019, while "Sunflower" with Swae Lee — from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse — became one of the most-streamed songs of all time. In 2024, he teamed up with Morgan Wallen on "I Had Some Help," the first song ever to simultaneously debut atop the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs. Moving between pop, hip-hop, country and R&B — and playing guitar on stage — he is widely regarded as a genre-blending pioneer.
