NewJeans is a South Korean girl group formed by ADOR, a subsidiary of HYBE. The group made its official debut on July 22, 2022, with the single "Attention," and quickly rose to become one of the most successful fourth-generation K-pop acts. Following a widely reported contract dispute with ADOR, NewJeans now promotes as a four-member act.
The group debuted with five members - Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein - and topped charts around the world with hits such as "Hype Boy," "Ditto," "OMG" and "Super Shy." After Danielle's contract with ADOR was terminated in December 2025, the group continues with Minji, Hanni, Haerin and Hyein, and marked its fourth debut anniversary in July 2026 with a reunion video released as a four-member act.

Career
NewJeans was launched by ADOR in 2022 and made its official debut on July 22, 2022, with the surprise release of the single "Attention." The follow-up "Hype Boy" became a viral hit, and the group closed the year with "Ditto," which topped charts in South Korea and beyond. In January 2023, the single "OMG" extended that run, and later that year "Super Shy" introduced the group to an even wider global audience. Their string of hits puts them alongside the biggest names in modern K-pop - see the BLACKPINK biography and the BTS biography for more artist profiles.
The Contract Dispute
According to reports, all five members announced the termination of their contracts with ADOR in November 2024 and briefly promoted under the rebranded name NJZ. ADOR responded with a court injunction, and on October 30, 2025, the Seoul Central District Court upheld the members' contracts with ADOR, which reportedly run until 2029.
Between November and December 2025, Haerin, Hyein, Hanni and Minji returned to ADOR. Danielle's contract was terminated on December 29, 2025, and NewJeans now promotes as a four-member act. ADOR later filed a damages suit - reported at KRW 33.1 billion, reduced from a reported KRW 43.1 billion in June 2026 - against Danielle, a family member and former ADOR CEO Min Hee-jin; those figures are reported amounts, not settled awards. On July 22, 2026, the group's fourth debut anniversary, the "2026 Summer of NewJeans" reunion video was released with the four members.
