Kareena Kapoor Khan was born on 21 September 1980 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She is the younger daughter of actors Randhir Kapoor and Babita, the younger sister of actress Karisma Kapoor, the granddaughter of the legendary showman Raj Kapoor, and the cousin of Ranbir Kapoor (who is married to actress Alia Bhatt). Her first name comes from the novel Anna Karenina.

Education: Kareena studied at Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai, Welham Girls' School in Dehradun, and Mithibai College. She later attended a summer course in microcomputers at Harvard Summer School and briefly studied law at Government Law College, Mumbai, before dropping out to pursue acting. She trained as an actress at the Kishore Namit Kapoor acting institute.

Debut: Kareena made her acting debut with Refugee (2000), for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

She shot to nationwide fame as the unforgettable Poo (Pooja) in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... (2001). She then earned critical acclaim for Chameli (2004), winning the Filmfare Special Performance Award, and for the dramas Dev (2004) and Omkara (2006), both of which brought her the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress.

Her career-defining turn as the vivacious Geet in Jab We Met (2007) won her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. She followed it with a string of blockbusters — 3 Idiots, Bodyguard, Ra.One, Bajrangi Bhaijaan — and the hard-hitting Udta Punjab. Her women-led hits include Veere Di Wedding and Good Newwz, and she later headlined Laal Singh Chaddha, the Netflix thriller Jaane Jaan, the comedy Crew, The Buckingham Murders (which also marked her debut as a producer), and Singham Again (2024).

2026: Kareena stars as DCP Ajooni Kohli in Daayra, Meghna Gulzar's crime thriller co-starring Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film, produced by Junglee Pictures and Pen Studios, released on 18 September 2026. No other film has been officially confirmed after Daayra.

Across her career, Kareena has won six Filmfare Awards: Best Female Debut for Refugee, the Special Performance Award for Chameli, the Critics Award for Best Actress for Dev and Omkara, Best Actress for Jab We Met, and Best Supporting Actress for We Are Family (2010).

Beyond films, she made her television debut as a judge on Zee TV's Dance India Dance: Battle of the Champions (Season 7, premiered 22 June 2019). Since 2018 she has hosted the radio show What Women Want with Kareena Kapoor Khan on Ishq 104.8 FM, whose Season 6 is running in 2026. Personal Life

Kareena married actor Saif Ali Khan on 16 October 2012 in a registered ceremony in Bandra, Mumbai. The couple has two sons: Taimur Ali Khan (born 20 December 2016) and Jehangir "Jeh" Ali Khan (born 21 February 2021).
