Early Life

Calvin Harris was born Adam Richard Wiles on 17 January 1984 in Dumfries, Scotland. He became interested in electronic music as a teenager and started recording his own demos at home, teaching himself the basics of production. His early tracks drew label interest while he was still young, and after a short spell in London he returned to Scotland to work on the material that would become his debut album.

Career

Harris released his debut studio album, I Created Disco, in 2007, establishing his electro-pop sound. His second album, Ready for the Weekend (2009), reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. In 2011 he produced Rihanna's "We Found Love", a worldwide smash that made him one of the most in-demand producers in pop.

His third album, 18 Months (2012), was his international breakthrough, yielding a then-record nine UK Top 10 singles from one album. He followed it with Motion (2014) and the Funk Wav Bounces series - Vol. 1 (2017) and Vol. 2 (2022).

Alongside his solo work, Harris wrote and produced Rihanna's 2011 global hit "We Found Love" (see our Rihanna biography (We Found Love producer)). His own biggest songs include "Summer" - a UK number one that reached number seven on the US Billboard Hot 100 - "Feel So Close", "This Is What You Came For", "One Kiss" with Dua Lipa (see our Dua Lipa biography (One Kiss, Potion)), and the 2025 single "Blessings" with Clementine Douglas. He also owns the Fly Eye Records label, and Forbes named him the world's highest-paid DJ every year from 2013 to 2017. He has released techno music under the alias Love Regenerator.
