Glasvegas are a Scottish indie rock band from Glasgow who are back with their first new music in six years. Famous for James Allan's brooding vocals, wall-of-sound guitars and songs that blend romance with raw social realism, the band became one of the most celebrated British guitar acts of their generation after their breakthrough in 2008, and their 2026 return marks an exciting new chapter.
Band Members
James Allan: lead singer and songwriter — the creative force behind the band's music.
Rab Allan: guitarist, driving the band's towering, reverb-heavy guitar sound.
Paul Donoghue: bass guitarist and founding member.
Chris Dickie: drummer.
Career
Formed in Glasgow in 2003, Glasvegas spent their early years shaping a sound that mixed Phil Spector-style grandeur with gritty working-class storytelling. Their breakthrough came with their platinum-selling self-titled debut album, Glasvegas (2008), powered by signature singles "Geraldine" and "Daddy's Gone". The band have released four studio albums so far: Glasvegas (2008), Euphoric 'Heartbreak' (2011), Later...When the TV Turns to Static (2013) and Godspeed (2021).
2026 Return: Degüello and Airy Fairy
After six years without new music, Glasvegas made a triumphant return in 2026. Lead single "Degüello" was released on October 27, 2026, announcing their fifth studio album, Airy Fairy, due out on April 2, 2027 via Modern Sky UK (reported by NME, Clash and the Glasgow Times on October 27, 2026). The album was recorded at a studio near Airdrie and written and produced by James Allan as a reaction to the frustrations of making 2021's Godspeed (per NME). The band also announced an 11-date UK and Ireland tour for May and September 2027 — Glasgow O2 Academy, Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham, Bristol, London Dome, Belfast, Dublin, Cork and Limerick — with tickets on general sale from October 30, 2026 (per NME). Earlier in the year, they played a sold-out Barrowland Ballroom homecoming show in Glasgow in April 2026.
