Sérigne M'Baye Gueye, born in March 1978 and known on stage as Disiz, is a French rap veteran whose career has stretched over two decades. He burst onto the scene in 2000 with the rowdy breakout single "J'pète les plombs", and has since reinvented himself again and again — moving from street-level hip-hop to rock experiments and refined pop-rap, with late-career triumphs like L'Amour and 2025's On s'en rappellera pas.
Early Life
Sérigne M'Baye Gueye was born in March 1978 — sources vary between 22 and 28 March — in Amiens, France, to a Senegalese father and a French mother, and was raised in Évry in Île-de-France. He was discovered by JoeyStarr of Suprême NTM after circulating his "Bête de bombe" demo tape, a co-sign that launched his professional career. He first performed under the alias Disiz la Peste, which he dropped in 2009.
Career
Disiz's debut album, Le Poisson Rouge (2000), reached No. 5 in France, powered by the breakout hit "J'pète les plombs," which climbed to No. 6 in France and No. 4 in Belgium (Wallonia). He followed it with a steady run of studio albums: Jeu de société (2003), Itinéraire d'un enfant bronzé (2004), Les histoires extra-ordinaires d'un jeune de banlieue (2006) and Disiz the End (2009). In 2010 he pivoted hard, recording the rock album Dans le ventre du crocodile under the name Disiz Peter Punk, before returning to rap with Lucide (2012), Transe-Lucide (2014) and Rap Machine (2015). Pacifique (2017) climbed to No. 8 in France, and Disizilla (2018) kept his output relentless. L'Amour and On s'en rappellera pas
Released on Capitol in 2022, L'Amour became one of Disiz's biggest successes, peaking at No. 4 in France on the strength of "SUBLIME," released on March 18, 2022. Three years later he returned with his 14th studio album, On s'en rappellera pas (2025, Sony), which reached No. 2 in France and features collaborations with Kid Cudi, Iliona, Laurent Voulzy and Theodora. The Theodora collaboration, "melodrama," climbed to No. 32 on the Shazam Global Chart. For more contemporary French stars, see our Tiakola biography and the Aya Nakamura biography.
Acting and Recent Work
Beyond music, Disiz is also an actor — he played an aspiring MC in the 2005 film "Dans tes rêves." In 2026 he is pre-touring new album material at French venues, with summer 2026 festival appearances lined up.
