Early Life

Born Hirdesh Singh on 15 March 1983 in Karampura, West Delhi, Honey Singh grew up in a Sikh family with roots in Hoshiarpur, Punjab. He studied at Guru Nanak Public School in New Delhi, where his love for music took shape long before fame arrived.

Career

Honey Singh began his career in 2003 as an underground hip-hop producer in Delhi's Punjabi music circuit. His breakthrough as a producer came when he produced Diljit Dosanjh's album The Next Level in 2009, a project that put both names on the map.

On 11 November 2011 he released his debut album International Villager on Speed Records. Powered by era-defining tracks like "Brown Rang" and "Angreji Beat" with Gippy Grewal, the album turned him into a youth sensation overnight and rewrote the sound of Punjabi pop.

Bollywood came calling next. His first Hindi film song was "Shakal Pe Mat Ja" for Mastan, and in 2012 he reportedly charged ₹7 million for his songs in Mastan and Cocktail — then the largest fee ever paid to a singer in Bollywood. What followed was an unstoppable run: "Blue Eyes" (2013), "Lungi Dance" – The Thalaiva(r) Tribute from Chennai Express (2013), "Chaar Botal Vodka" from Ragini MMS 2 (2014), "Sunny Sunny" from Yaariyan (2014) with Neha Kakkar, "Dheere Dheere" (2015) and "Dil Chori" from Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety (2018).

His studio albums kept pace with the hits. Desi Kalakaar arrived on 26 September 2014 via T-Series, and after a long quiet spell he returned with Honey 3.0 on 15 March 2024 on Zee Music Company. Then came Glory on 26 August 2024 — an 18-track statement featuring "Millionaire", "Rap God" and "Jatt Mehkma" that announced his full-scale comeback. The momentum continued with 51 Glorious Days, released on 26 September 2025, and his 2025 film smash 'Laal Pari' from Housefull 5.

Beyond music, he acted in Mirza – The Untold Story (2012), which earned him the PTC Punjabi Film Award for Best Male Debut, followed by Tu Mera 22 Main Tera 22 (2013) and The Xpose (2014). In 2014 he also served as a judge on the Star Plus singing show India's Raw Star.

Awards

Honey Singh's trophy cabinet reflects his dominance of the early 2010s. He won Best Music Director at the PTC Punjabi Music Awards three years in a row — 2010, 2011 and 2012. In 2012 he also picked up Best International Act at the BritAsia TV Music Awards and Best International Album for International Villager at the UK Asian Music Awards.

Recent Work

December 2024 brought the Netflix documentary "Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous", in which he spoke openly about his life and disclosed his bipolar disorder diagnosis. In a 2026 interview he also revealed that he wears a wig due to medication-related hair loss.

On stage, the comeback has been massive. His Millionaire India Tour in 2025 covered 10 cities, and the My Story: India Tour 2026 with NDTV raised the bar further — the India chapter opened on 14 March 2026 at Delhi's Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium before 25,000 fans, where a live music video with Lauren Gottlieb was shot on stage, followed by the Mumbai leg on 28 March 2026, again across 10 cities. Recent one-offs like Honey Singh's 'Casa Tupka Anthemo' show the hit machine is still running.

Personal Life

Honey Singh married Shalini Talwar on 23 January 2011, and the couple divorced in November 2023. After dominating the charts in the early 2010s, he stepped away for a long hiatus around 2014–2015 before roaring back with the Glory era.
