Early Life

Victoria Monét McCants was born on May 1, 1989, in Atlanta, Georgia, and grew up in Sacramento, California. She began writing poetry and songs as a child and started her career behind the scenes as a songwriter before stepping into the spotlight as a solo artist.

Career

Monét first made her name as one of pop's most in-demand songwriters, co-writing for Ariana Grande across every album from Yours Truly (2013) to Positions (2020) — including "Thank U, Next" and "7 Rings" — plus credits for BLACKPINK ("Ice Cream" with Selena Gomez), Chloe x Halle, Fifth Harmony, Nas, Travis Scott and Chris Brown. Her work on Grande's Thank U, Next earned her three Grammy nominations in 2019. As a solo artist she released the Jaguar EP (2020) and her debut album Jaguar II (2023); "On My Mama" became her first Billboard Hot 100 top-40 hit and earned a Record of the Year nomination. At the 66th Grammy Awards in February 2024 she won three Grammys — Best New Artist, Best R&B Album and Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical) — from seven nominations. Earlier in 2026 she was a special guest on Bruno Mars' "The Romantic" European tour.
