Early Life & Odd Future
Tyler Gregory Okonma was born on March 6, 1991, in Hawthorne and raised in Ladera Heights, Los Angeles, California. A self-taught musician, he learned piano as a teenager and began crafting beats on his own, posting early songs online before he had any industry backing.
In the late 2000s, he co-founded the hip-hop collective Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All — a rowdy crew of young rappers, producers, skaters and visual artists that quickly became one of the most talked-about movements in music. His self-released mixtape Bastard (2009) and debut studio album Goblin (2011) built his cult following, and the stark black-and-white video for “Yonkers” (2011) turned him into an overnight talking point. He also brought the crew’s off-kilter humor to television with the Adult Swim sketch show Loiter Squad (2012–2014).
Solo Career & Grammy Wins
Tyler’s studio catalog spans nine albums: Bastard (2009), Goblin (2011), Wolf (2013), Cherry Bomb (2015), Flower Boy (2017), Igor (2019), Call Me If You Get Lost (2021), Chromakopia (2024) and Don’t Tap the Glass (2025).
Igor (2019) marked his commercial breakthrough: it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and won Best Rap Album at the 62nd Grammy Awards. He repeated the feat with Call Me If You Get Lost (2021), which also debuted at No. 1 and took home Best Rap Album at the 64th Grammys — making him a two-time Grammy winner. His signature songs include “Yonkers” (2011), “See You Again” (2017), “EARFQUAKE” (2019), “Noid” (2024) and “Sticky” (2024, featuring GloRilla, Sexyy Red and Lil Wayne).
Chromakopia (2024) delivered the strongest first-week sales of his career. Then, on July 21, 2025, he surprise-released his ninth studio album, Don’t Tap the Glass, and launched Chromakopia: The World Tour.
Fashion & Recent Work
Beyond music, Tyler built a fashion footprint: he founded the streetwear label Golf Wang in 2011 and partnered with Converse on Golf le Fleur, which spans sneakers, apparel, fragrance and even nail polish.
2025 kept him everywhere: he headlined Chromakopia: The World Tour, earned six nominations at the 68th Grammy Awards according to reports, and was named Apple Music Artist of the Year 2025. He also made his acting debut in the film Marty Supreme, starring alongside Timothée Chalamet and Gwyneth Paltrow.
