Known the world over as the “Princess of Pop,” Kylie Minogue is one of the most enduring stars in music. Born on 28 May 1968 in Melbourne, Australia (age 57), she has carried a glittering four-decade career from Australian soap opera to the world’s biggest stages — selling more than 80 million records, winning two Grammy Awards and receiving the BRITs Global Icon Award.
In 2026 she takes on a brand-new challenge: a voice role as Clowder the Cat Witch in Cynthia Erivo’s animated musical Bad Fairies. From her unstoppable smash “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” to her record-breaking Tension tour, here is the full story of Kylie Minogue.
Early Life
Kylie Ann Minogue was born on 28 May 1968 at Bethlehem Hospital in Caulfield South, Melbourne, Australia. Her father, Ronald Charles Minogue, was an accountant, and her mother, Carol Ann (née Jones), had emigrated from Wales to Australia in 1958. Kylie is the eldest of three children: her younger sister Dannii became a pop star in her own right, and her brother Brendan works in television. She holds dual Australian–British citizenship and began appearing on Australian television at the age of 12.
Breakthrough
Kylie became a household name playing Charlene Robinson on the Australian soap opera Neighbours from 1986. Her character’s wedding to Scott Robinson drew record UK viewing figures, making her a star in Britain as well as Australia. She signed with Mushroom Records in 1987, and her debut single, a cover of “The Loco-Motion,” went straight to No. 1. Teaming up with the hit factory Stock Aitken Waterman, she topped the charts again with “I Should Be So Lucky” (1988), a No. 1 in both Australia and the UK, and her debut album Kylie (1988) reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart.
Career Highlights
The 1990s brought a bold reinvention, and in 2001 she conquered the world all over again with the album Fever and its lead single “Can’t Get You Out of My Head,” one of the defining pop singles of the decade. Her biggest songs also include “Especially for You,” “Spinning Around,” “Slow” and “Padam Padam” — the 2023 comeback single that made her the first and only female artist with UK Top 10 hits spanning the 1980s to the 2020s.
With more than 80 million records sold, she is the best-selling Australian-born solo artist of all time. She has won two Grammy Awards — Best Dance Recording for “Come Into My World” (2004) and the first-ever Best Pop Dance Recording for “Padam Padam” (2024) — along with 18 ARIA Music Awards, the BRITs Global Icon Award (March 2024) and a place in the ARIA Hall of Fame. She has been appointed an OBE, made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO), named a Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in France, and listed in the Time 100 in 2024.

Kylie released Tension in 2023 and its sequel Tension II in 2024, and played a Las Vegas residency, “More Than Just a Residency,” at Voltaire in The Venetian from November 2023 to May 2024. The Tension Tour ran from 15 February 2025 in Perth to 26 August 2025 in Monterrey, playing 66 shows to around 576,000 fans and grossing roughly US$78.4 million.

After many years based in London, she returned to live in Melbourne in 2021. On screen she has appeared in the film Moulin Rouge!
