Bad Gyal, born Alba Farelo Solé on 7 March 1997 in Vilassar de Mar, Catalonia, Spain, is a Spanish-Catalan singer-songwriter and DJ widely regarded as a pioneer of Spanish-language dancehall and reggaeton. Her viral 2016 breakthrough, a Catalan cover of Rihanna's "Work" titled "Pai", set her on the path to becoming one of the defining voices of urban Latin music.
From that viral moment she rose to a number-one debut album with La Joia (2024) and the 2026 Más Cara arena run. In October 2026 she went viral once more, this time for telling the Fort Night Show that she would refuse a hypothetical $3 million Taylor Swift collaboration.
Early Life
Alba Farelo Solé was born and raised in Vilassar de Mar, a coastal town in Catalonia, Spain, and is the eldest of five children. Her father, Eduard Farelo, was a renowned voice actor. She earned a fashion-design degree from the University of Barcelona and spent her early working years in a call centre before music took over.
Career
Her Catalan cover of Rihanna's "Work", titled "Pai", went viral on YouTube in 2016 and led to her debut mixtape Slow Wine (2016), featuring the breakout tracks "Indapanden" and "Fiebre". She followed it with the Worldwide Angel mixtape (2018) and signed with Interscope Records in 2019. The Warm Up EP arrived in 2021, while "Alocao" (2019) became her first number-one single in Spain. "Chulo pt.2" (June 2023, with Tokischa and Young Miko) became her first RIAA-certified single, going platinum in the United States and entering the Billboard Global 200. Her debut studio album La Joia (26 January 2024) debuted at number one in Spain, powered by the Karol G and Sean Paul collaboration "KÁRMIKA" and "Mi Lova" with Myke Towers.
Recent Work
Her second studio album, Más Cara, arrived on 6 March 2026, executive-produced by Cromo X, with the singles "Da Me", "Última Noche" (with Ozuna) and "Fuma". The Más Cara World Tour launched on 20 March 2026 in Barcelona and closes on 8 November 2026 in Dallas, playing 25 shows across Europe, Latin America and North America. In October 2026 she made headlines on Blender's Fort Night Show, where Bad Gyal says she would reject a $3 million Taylor Swift collaboration: she explained that she does not "feel represented" by Swift's music, calling it "dry chicken without salt… bland", while stressing there is no "beef" and adding that she would love to work with Madonna.
Personal Life
Bad Gyal keeps her private life low-key, but she is an outspoken advocate for gender equality, LGBT rights and social justice.
