Early Life

Shreya Ghoshal was born on 12 March 1984 in Berhampore (Baharampur), West Bengal, and raised in Rawatbhata, Rajasthan. Trained in Hindustani classical music from childhood, she won the television singing contest Sa Re Ga Ma in 2000, which brought her to the attention of filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Career and Breakthrough

Ghoshal made her playback debut with “Bairi Piya” from Devdas (2002) at the age of 16, winning the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer and the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer. She went on to become the leading female playback voice of the 2000s and 2010s, recording thousands of songs across Indian film industries.
